Snowdrop Weekend
Each year, on the second weekend in February, something truly magical happens in the heart of Beoley.

The churchyard at St Leonard’s becomes a breath-taking sea of white, as hundreds upon hundreds of snowdrops burst into bloom. These delicate flowers—often called Candlemas Bells—are one of the first signs that spring is on the way. Traditionally associated with hope, purity, and new beginnings, snowdrops have long been connected to the Christian festival of Candlemas, which celebrates light returning to the world.

Their presence in our churchyard is both intentional and mysterious. Many may have been planted generations ago to mark loved ones’ resting places, while others have spread naturally over time, forming the stunning white blanket that draws visitors from near and far. Walking among them feels almost sacred—a reminder of nature’s quiet beauty and the passing of the seasons.

But it’s not just the snowdrops that draw the crowds.

A Weekend to Remember
Snowdrop Weekend has become a
much-loved tradition at St Leonard’s,
welcoming hundreds of visitors each
year—from local friends who make it part
of their February routine to first-time
guests who quickly fall in love with the
experience.

The ancient church building, with its deep
sense of history and peace, is open for
you to explore. Join one of our guided
tours, or wander through its timeless
spaces at your own pace. Every stone has
a story, and our team is always happy to
share the secrets and heritage of our beloved church.

In the Tapestry Room, warm up with a homemade lunch, a hot drink, or a slice of delicious cake—all offered at very reasonable prices. There’s something for everyone, whether you're after a hearty soup or just a sweet treat and a chat.

Something for All Ages
Each year, Snowdrop Weekend takes on a
theme—from celebrating eco-living, to the joy of
marriage, to the beauty of flowers. The theme
runs through our activities and decorations, and
connects with a popular schools competition,
where children share artwork and reflections.
Judging the entries is always a challenge thanks
to the creativity and enthusiasm shown by local
pupils.

Inside the church, we offer crafts and trails for
children and adults alike. Whether you’re young
in age or young at heart, there’s something fun
to enjoy.

And of course, no visit is complete without taking home your very own St Leonard’s snowdrop, lovingly dug from our churchyard. These bulbs serve as living souvenirs—small symbols of beauty and blessing that you can plant and watch bloom year after year.

We would love to welcome you to this very special weekend.
Whether you're coming for the flowers, the food, the history, or simply the
chance to breathe and reflect, Snowdrop Weekend at St Leonard’s is a
joyful, peaceful, and uplifting celebration of early spring and enduring
community.

Save the date. Bring a friend. Wrap up warm. And prepare to be amazed.
