Annual Worship

Toy Service: Sunday 7th December
Each year, as Christmas approaches, we hold a special Toy Service as part of both our 9.15am and 11.15am worship where we collect new, unwrapped toys to support children who will be visiting a parent in prison over the festive season. These gifts are distributed through our partnership with the prison chaplaincy, helping to bring a little light and love into a difficult time. It's a powerful way to share generosity and remind these families that they are not forgotten.

Christingle: Sunday 7th December
Our Christingle celebration takes place as part of our Church@4 café-style worship in December. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly gathering with food, music, and creativity, where we each make a Christingle – a symbolic orange representing the light of Christ. Through story, song, and candlelight, we remember God’s love for the world and support the work of The Children’s Society, who care for vulnerable children across the UK. It’s a joyful and moving service for all ages.

Carols and Readings: Sunday 21st December
Held at 6pm in the run-up to Christmas, this beautiful candlelit service combines well-loved Bible readings with a rich selection of congregational carols, telling the story of Christ’s birth through word and song. It’s a time to pause, reflect, and join our voices together in the music of the season. Whether Christmas isn’t Christmas without a carol or you’re simply looking for a moment of peace and meaning, you’re warmly invited to come and share in this festive and hope-filled tradition.

Come and Join in Nativity
6pm on Christmas Eve
A fun and relaxed family service where everyone gets to take part in the story of Jesus’ birth! Whether you come dressed as a shepherd, angel, or wise one—or pick up a costume when you arrive—there’s a part for all ages in this no-rehearsal Nativity. With carols, storytelling, and lots of laughter, it’s a joyful way to begin your Christmas celebrations and be reminded of the wonder at the heart of it all.

First Communion of Christmas
11.30pm on Christmas Eve
A peaceful, candlelit service that leads us into the mystery and joy of Christmas. As midnight approaches, we gather to celebrate the birth of Christ with Holy Communion—marking the very beginning of Christmas Day in a spirit of stillness, wonder, and worship. With traditional carols, familiar readings, and a deep sense of reverence, this is a beautiful and meaningful way to welcome the Light into the darkness.

Christmas Day Family Communion
10am on Christmas Morning
A joyful, family-friendly celebration of Christmas with Holy Communion. Come as you are—whether in your best clothes or Christmas jumpers—and bring a present to show and tell during the service! We gather as a church family to give thanks for the greatest gift of all: the birth of Jesus. With carols, laughter, and a relaxed, festive atmosphere, this service is full of warmth, wonder, and the joy of Christmas morning.

Candlemas: Monday 2nd February
7pm
A gentle, reflective service of Night Prayer marking the end of the Christmas and Epiphany season. As we remember Christ, the Light of the World, we gather in the quiet of the evening with candlelight, stillness, and prayer. This peaceful service invites us to pause, give thanks, and look ahead in hope as we turn toward the journey of Lent.

Ash Wednesday, 18th February
10am at St Leonard’s Church
We begin Lent with a quiet, reflective service of Holy Communion, including the traditional ashing – the marking of a cross in ash on the forehead – as a sign of repentance and renewal. This ancient practice invites us to turn again toward God with honesty and hope, remembering our dependence on God's grace.

Mothering Sunday, Sunday 15th March
10:30am
A joyful, all-age service where we give thanks for all who show love and care in mothering ways. Together, we reflect on God’s nurturing love and celebrate the gift of community. Posies are shared during the service as a symbol of gratitude and blessing.

All Together for Palm Sunday
Sunday 29th March (No service at St Leonard’s)
On Palm Sunday we gather as one worshipping community at St Laurence Church, Alvechurch to remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. With palm crosses, joyful procession, and shared worship, we begin Holy Week together in unity and reflection.

Maundy Thursday Communion, 10am
This traditional service invites us to remember the Last Supper and Jesus’ command to love one another.
This year, the Stripping of the Altar will take place as part of the service. As the altar is cleared and the church left bare, we are drawn into the stillness and sorrow of Gethsemane, marking the beginning of the Passion.
After the service, we share refreshments in The Tapestry Room—a moment of fellowship before the silence of Good Friday begins.

Maundy Thursday Meal, 7pm
On the night before the cross, Jesus shared a meal with his friends and gave them a new command: love one another.
We gather for a simple meal, Holy Communion, and acts of gentle service. As the meal ends, we move into church for quiet prayer—keeping watch with Jesus in Gethsemane. A reflective and moving way to enter the story of love, sacrifice, and hope.

Good Friday: The Three Hours
2pm–2pm | Reflective Prayers
The church will be open for quiet prayer and reflection. Come and go as you wish—pause in the stillness, light a candle, and spend time with God on this most solemn day.
3pm | Good Friday Liturgy
A traditional, contemplative service marking the sorrow of the cross. With readings, silence, and prayer, we remember Jesus’ suffering and death, holding space for grief before the joy of Easter dawns.

Ascension Day, Thursday 14th May
Our Christingle celebration takes place as part of our Church@4 café-style worship in December.

Pentecost, Sunday 24th May
Held at 6pm in the run-up to Christmas, this beautiful candlelit service combines well-loved Bible readings with a rich selection of congregational carols, telling the story of Christ’s birth through word and song. It’s a time to pause, reflect, and join our voices together in the music of the season. Whether Christmas isn’t Christmas without a carol or you’re simply looking for a moment of peace and meaning, you’re warmly invited to come and share in this festive and hope-filled tradition.

Commemoration of the Departed
Saturday 1st November, 5pm
This special service is a time for us to come together and remember those who have died, especially those we’ve had the privilege to support through funerals in the past three years. We light candles and share their names as a way to honor their memory and offer comfort to all who are grieving. Everyone is welcome to join us in this quiet, caring space.

Remembrance Sunday, 9th November
Each year, we come together to pause, reflect, and remember all those who have served and sacrificed in times of conflict. Our Remembrance Sunday service is a chance to honor their courage and commitment, and to share a moment of quiet respect as a community. Everyone is welcome to join us for this meaningful time.
