The Book of Common Prayer
Fifth Sundays at 8.00am | St Leonard’s Church
Midweek Services: 1st Thursday at St Leonard’s Church
3rd Wednesday in The Upper Room at The Ark, St Laurence, Alvechurch
If you’ve ever wondered what a "Book of Common Prayer" (BCP) Communion service is, here’s a simple guide.
The BCP is a traditional form of Anglican worship that has been cherished for centuries. First compiled in 1549 and still in use in its 1662 form, it offers poetic, reverent language and a deeply rooted structure that has shaped generations of prayer and praise in the Church of England.

This service follows a familiar pattern: set prayers, Bible readings, a short reflection or sermon, and the sharing of bread and wine in Holy Communion. It is quiet, reflective, and beautifully simple—offering peace, rhythm, and space to be still with God.

The language might feel more formal than other services, but it carries a richness that many find deeply comforting. Whether you’re long familiar with the BCP or encountering it for the first time, you are most welcome.

At St Leonard’s, we offer BCP Holy Communion:
-
Every fifth Sunday at 8.00am, in the stillness of early morning
-
On the first Thursday of each month, also at St Leonard’s
-
And on the third Wednesday, in the peaceful setting of the Upper Room at The Ark, St Laurence Church, Alvechurch
These gatherings are usually around 30–40 minutes. There is no music or singing, just the gentle rhythm of prayer and scripture, led reverently by a priest. You’re welcome to receive Communion or simply come to sit, listen, and soak in the beauty of the words.

Often, we share refreshments and conversation afterwards. But as always—you are welcome to stay, or to leave quietly. Come just as you are.

If you're looking for a peaceful, prayerful space, or want to experience the deep roots of our worship tradition, we’d love to see you.
