St Leonard's Healing Prayer Group
St Leonard’s Healing Prayer Group prays for those who are ill or dying or in need of support of prayer for whatever reason.   A prayer list is produced once a month and members of the group pray daily for those who are on it.   The group believes that there is strong biblical support for prayers for healing and many instances of such prayers being answered.
In James chapter 5 it is written:

Is any one of you in trouble?   He should pray.   Is anyone happy?   Let him sing songs of praise.   Is any one of you sick?   He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.   And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;  the Lord will raise him up.   If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.   Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.   The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

James 5:13-16 (NIV)
Sickness refers not only to the body, but also to the mind and spirit – to anything that makes a person less than whole – and healing is about wholeness and reconciliation.   Jesus linked physical illness with mental anguish:

Which is easier:  to say to the paralytic, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up, take your mat and walk?”

Mark 2:9 (NIV)
He also offered:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

The Healing Prayer Group asks the Lord for healing for all those on the list.   Strict confidentiality is maintained:  the individual’s illness or concern is never mentioned either on the list or in the prayers, and many people ask that only their first names be used.
Prayer is complementary to the work of doctors and nurses, who have also received their gifts from God:

to another, gifts of healing by that one Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
