Heritage weekend 1 - 3 October 2010 A three day local history and heritage event is set to get people buzzing from near and far with an invitation to find out if one of their ancestors was a villain or a ‘saint’. ‘Monk or Murderer – Who do you think you are?’ is being organised by St. Leonard’s Church, Beoley over the weekend of 1-3 October, with help from local history societies, organisations such as Forge Mill Museum, Redditch Local History Society, Worcestershire Record Office, Birmingham & Midland Genealogical Society and Heraldry (Bromsgrove) and individuals fascinated by genealogy – particularly in relation to Beoley village’s rich past and legends. Local schoolchildren will be compiling a time capsule and marking various periods in history with music, dance, etc..

In addition there will be:-

• Family activities with hands-on demonstrations • Talks and practical advice on how to delve into your family history • Displays featuring old parish records never previously seen • Displays of lifestyle and dress through the centuries • Floral displays and music through the centuries • Legends, Whodunit’s and Quizzes • Local walks.

A medieval supper on Saturday evening (2nd October) at Beoley Village Hall will feature music and entertainment.

Beoley and 12th Century St. Leonards’s has a wealth of history and legend and this is a great opportunity to enjoy a good weekend, find out whether you have any local connections and indeed bring to light any unknown facts about the area’s history.
